SALAM ALL...how are you??this week and last week our class start to present our group assignment. Last week we present about how to promote the computer lab at school and our group decided to organize"Minggu Makmal Komputer"...for us this program really good to introduce the computer lab to student and teacher at school because in this week there will be many programs such as educational games, competitions, introduction to the computer lab which student will know about the components of computer and there will be a demonstrator which he will help student to use computer, surf internet and so on.For any details about our presentation u can see at the files in the yahoo groups.

while in this week we had presentation on the lesson plan....we choose to present the topic in the text books which the title is "adab memberi sedekah dan hadiah"....others group also presents their work. what i can say here they are so creative in create the slideshows of presentation...

CAMPING....

Last week our social n sport bureau had organized a camping…erm motivation camping actually. The venue was at Kem Sri Raudhah, Gombak. What I can say here is overall our programs were running smoothly, successful and exciting. However we had to cancel some activities such as night walking and repelling because of the weather at that time.
All the activities were conducted in group. For me that was a sweet memory to me because masa ni la saya dapat kenal all the group members dengan lebih mendalam…..terasa ukhwah tu erat sangat. Thanks all especially Yus, Asmak, Anita, Nurul, Raqi, Hafiz and Yazid.

Day 1....
1st activity that we did in group was we had to create the logo for the program n then presents it to all the participant... After that we had practical of first aid. Pn Zainun briefed us the way how to face any emergency cases at school such as injured and so on. In this activity we learn how to prevent that kind of issues, and how to cure it.while in the afternoon we had an 'obstacle.kami semua kene mandi Lumpur huhu...at first memang tak sanggup tapi bila fikir2 kalau tak join tak dapat experience like others. After that apa lagi we all semua terjun kat sungai la bersihkan diri..tak pasal2 dapat mandi spa hahaha lucu pun ade but it was a good motivation and good experience to us.
And lagi 1 game yang best kami semua main lat tali lat tali tamplum (betul ke ejaan ni. . .) at the 1st round our group won the game but after that kami kalah but we are not the loosers. While at night because of the raining heavily we had to cancel our activity which we call it' kala malam bulan mengambang'(syukur Alhamdulullah...hehehe) but at that night we had BBQ. Best sangat coz dah lama tak main masak2 hehehe lama gak nak tunggu ayam kami masak. Almost 2 hours baru la ayam2 tu masak n then we had lunch together…went to sleppzzzzzzzz

Day 2....
We had explorace....very tough activity!!kene gigit pacat lak tu huhuhu....mula2 ingat group kami kalah bcoz kami orang terakhir sampai kat check point tu rupe2nye tu ade lagi check point yang terakhir....apelagi kami pun memulakan langkah utk menjadi juara...last2 kami jadi the second group yang sampai kat kem after group 8.

6th Lecture: PeNgUrUsAn MaKmAl & ScHOoLnEt

Salam all…how are u? How your holiday? To Ms.Chin I think it is not to late to wish you Happy Chinese New Year..sepanjang minggu ni ke mana je kita pergi mesti ada sahaja yg menjamu kita limau kan??Limau itu sebenarnya melambangkan kekayaan (prosperity) kepada bangsa Cina….ermm no wonder la if Mc.Donalds pun ada prosperity burger only for this month.

What I Learned?

The topic for this week is computer lab management & SchoolNet (pengurusan makmal computer & SchoolNet) .According to the survey by Ms. Chin penggunaan makmal computer di sekolah-sekolah is very limited because of the time. Therefore the school management should manage the schedule or timetable properly, so that it easy to teachers and students to use the computer lab. Besides, there are so many ways to promote or encourage teachers and students to use computer lab such as campaign, competition among teachers and students, games, workshop, open day and so on.

The important things that we should watch in the computer lab are the safety of the main equipment; computer and the safety of user. First of all before use the computer we must make sure the computer in the good conditions, use the stabilizer to control the temperature, make sure we shutdown all the system units before connect with the cables (mouse/keyboard) or RAM card, and let the system unit cool down before repairing or upgrading the computer. While user also should beware with their safety

SchoolNet is in line with the Government’s efforts to develop an information-based society. The objective is to boost the effectiveness of the local education system. SchoolNet provides the infrastructure and technological assistance needed for 10,000 schools throughout the country.

In my opinion, schoolnet is very important to teachers and students because it creates an interactive learning environment which is so enjoyable and students have easy access to information and educational resources on the Internet. During my school life there was no system like this which is so interesting and so helpful, that is because students can learn about all subjects especially Science, History, Mathematics and English. Besides, and it also provide tutorial and exercises which can help students to achieve a good result in the examination.

In addition, SchoolNet also beneficial to teachers in teaching and learning model, action research, mastery learning, multiple intelligent, software tutorial, Implementation of ETeMS, Teaching courseware, Syllabus, English for Teaching Mathematics and Science (ETeMS) and so on.

Before end the class, Ms. Chin gave us assignment which to be done in group. the topic is how to promote the school computer lab? we have to present this assignment by next class (19th Feb 08)....our topic for this assignment is 'open day'...just wait and see ya!

What I Questionned?

1- how to encourage students in rural area to surf the internet especially schoolnet website??
2-what is the parents and society role to ensure that the schoolnet benefits to them?

5th Lecture: PPSMI (Program Pengajaran & Pembelajaran Sains & Matematik dalam B. Ing)

Dalam merialisasikan keberkesanan ETeMS, KPM telah mengambil beberapa langkah yang sesuai untuk memudahkan guru dan pelajar menguasai sistem ini. Oleh itu, satu pelan strategi peningkatan keberkesanan PPSMI telah diwujudkan di mana matlamat utama pelan tindakan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan PPSMI dan prestasi murid dalam matapelajaran S&M menjelang PMR 2005.Antara tindakan untuk memastikan keberkesana PPSMI ialah:

1-Memberi ownership dan tanggungjawab sepenuh kepada sekolah dalam meningkatkan pencapaian sekolah
2-Melaksanakan porogram intervensi PPSMI
3-Membaiki kelemahan dalam aspek persediaan seperti latihan dan pembekalan bahan

Terdapat 7 strategi utama dan aktiviti-aktiviti tertentu untuk memastikan keberkesanan PPSMI:

4th Lecture: ETEMS (English for Teaching Math & Science)

Salam all...pejam celik2 almost 1 month we have been here but I still cannot remember all your name guys hehehe...and also we got so many assignments which to be done within 2 months (waa...so tough) but it's ok because this is for our future right? so don't give up, be happy and all the best!! cayuk2...
First thing in today's lecture, Ms.Chin informed us about the correction in the course outline (marking scheme), there are:
1-assessment 40% :
- 20% IWB (Interactive White Board)
- 10% group assignment
- 10% blogging
2- final exam 60%

what I learned?
Our new topic is ETEMS or English for Teaching Math & Science.. ETeMS has been proposed as an urgent interim measure to ensure that teachers of mathematics and science (MST) will have basic capacity to use English as the medium of instruction. Bearing in mind the limited duration of interaction, ETeMS is not to be regarded as a complete language development course, but rather, one of several support mechanisms introduced by the Ministry of Education to encourage the MST (Mathemetics and Science Teacher) to further develop their English language competence to a level that will engender optimal performance in and outside the classroom.

The related website is http://www.tutor.com.my/tutor/etems/ thru this website we can search all about ETEMS in term of the purposes or objectives, the structure of ETEM programmes, and module contents. According to the history this programme was started at 2002 and slowly but surely in my opinion this programme is running smoothly and it can lead students and MST to be more confident and successful in their life.

Furthermore, I see this programme really helpful and effective especially to improve the communication of students and teachers in English. As what our former PM said, on the global front, developments and advances in scientific and technological advances began to make its impact as more and more of our graduates found it difficult to get the job they wanted simply because they were not proficient in English. It was also becoming increasingly challenging to translate the latest technological developments into Bahasa Malaysia. For example, in Chemistry, since the beginning of the 1990s, more than 1million articles have appeared in specialized journals every 2 years.

Besides, there are so many sources,useful guideline and techniques in this website espesially for MST, for example we can go to the Utusan Malaysia education portal where we can find many sample of questionnes and past exam papers for PMR, SPM,and STPM. we also can link to this website http://myschoolnet.ppk.kpm.my which there are so many useful information about ETEMS for teachers, students and the management.

I do hope all these information can help us to be a good teacher and I really want to improve my English...

3rd Lecture:TeChNoLoGy & SmArT ScHoOL (Sekolah Bestari)

Salam...This is our 3rd lecture with Ms. Chin..Today she distributed to all of us a questionnaire regarding this subject and she asked us to fill up all the questionnaire and submit it at the end of the class.

What I Learned?

Our Lecture begin with a new topic: Technology..we know that throughout this 20th century ICT become a necessary thing in our life.We should know how to use this 'miracle' technology or otherwise we will left behind. Nowadays, even children in age 4 years old know how to explore it....

By using a smart board, Ms.Chin start her lecture with the new topic; Technology. In his topic we learned the definition of the Technology. We can divide the definition into five; there are technology as object, technology as knowledge, technology as activities, technology as a process and technology as a sociotechnical system.

Besides, we also learned how technology really important in our life and the complementation of technology in career and it effect to the employers and employees.Secondly, Ms.Chin taught us about the learning model, as a student and becoming teacher we should know this model in order to achieve goals and balance in our life.In order to see the successful of all these learning models, we should draw the model strategies (technique and methodology which we can use to teach students in ICT) which suitable with their needs and socio-economic background. This is because the way people live and even think, depends upon their background conditions, therefore it will easy to students to learn and understand the topic.

In addition, there are four families of model; behavioral, information processing, personal, and social model. Both of model strategies and families of model must be evaluated by a teacher either in formative (such as quiz, question and answer session in the class, etc) or in summative (such as mid term, final exam,PMR, SPM, STPM), after that we can recognize and know the implementation and the impact of our model and strategies.

After that we learned about the smart school (sekolah bestari). We can link to the website easily by clicking to the 'web links' in Yahoo Group and then all the websites which registered under 'web link' will appear and one of them is www.msc.com.my/smartschool , then click to this hyperlink and we can search all about smart school in term of its definition‚ characteristics‚ objectives‚implementation‚ policies and concepts.

Before our class finished, we search little bit about school net at http://www.myschoolnet.ppk.kpm.my/ . In this website we can find a lot of information about the school net in term of; teachers, school administration and the students. Ms. Chin also teaches us how to add link into our Yahoo Group. Assalamualaikum and very happy hari-hari to all my lecturers of PJFD5101 and all my new friends in Diploma of Education 08...nice to meet you all and wishing you ahlan wasahlan and all the best !! I'm glad to be here.Me is Faridah Mohamad Nasir an i'm graduated from IIUM in Arabic Language & Literature. I think it is enough for the introduction... :-) what i want to write here is what i learned in this subject for week 01 in this faculty.

What I Learned?

This week I learned how to create Yahoo Group and Blog..in my opinion this subject is really important to us especially to a teacher. First of all we had divided into 3 groups which each groups has 01 instructor; Ms.Chin, Cik Umi & Prof.Dr. Saedah Siraj.

Firstly Ms.Chin tought us how to register in a Yahoo Group (YG), which by using this YG it easy to us to refer any lecture notes and information regarding this subject...how to create YG? first thing is go to this website:http://uk.groups.yahoo.com,then click on 'join this group' and after that sign in our yahoomail address (makesure we sign up first in yahoomail)...furthermore if we want to add any info about ourselves just click to 'add record' and fill up the questions.

After finishing registered in YG, Ms.Chin asked us to create our own blog. In order to have a blog we must sign up to gmail (google mail) first..after signing and filling up all the requirements in gmail only then we can create our own blog.The steps are as follows:

Firstly, go to http://www.blogspot.com/ and follow all the steps; name the title of blog and blog URL.The benefits of using the blog are we can share any information with our links such as class notes, experiences, ideas.Besides, we can discuss with our friends and it easy to us to study and make revision together.

Last but not least, thanks to all especially Ms. Chin because they are willing to help me in order to finish up my first task.

This is my new lesson for me and of course i felt so excited to be one of the DipEd UM community.
